Theatre by the Lake presents

CumbriaFest

Wed 18 Sep – Thu 31 Oct
Great stories created in and inspired by our remarkable county.

This festival of new writing showcases the local theatre makers that we’ve supported since establishing our Artist Development Network, Cumbrian Creatives, in 2020.

The festival will kick off with The Dreamtime Fellrunner by Julie Carter. Produced in association with Theatre by the Lake, this is a poetic exploration of Julie’s fellrunning life. After opening in our Studio, the show will tour to venues across Cumbria and beyond.

Don’t miss the world premiere of our brand-new commission, Steel. Written by Lee Mattinson and set in and inspired by growing up in Workington, Steel tells the story of two lads on a town-wide treasure hunt for a contract that could change everything. See it in the Studio here first, before it heads out on a West Coast community tour.

We’re also presenting a series of one night shows, workshops and social events to bring people together. At our first ever festival of local new work, there will be opportunities for you to inform what the future of artist development at TBTL looks like.

If you’re a local artist, want to support new writing made in Cumbria, or you simply want to experience great theatre, we look forward to welcoming you to our Studio this autumn.

Every CumbriaFest ticket sold donates £1 to supporting developing artists in Cumbria.
