The Borrowers Cast in Rehearsals
The cast of ‘The Borrowers’, Theatre by the Lake’s Main House Christmas production for 2022, arrived in Keswick on 25 October and rehearsals have been going well with much laughter, music and creativity. The seven-strong cast are all actor-musicians, playing a fun mix of instruments to bring this classic tale magically to life on stage.
Rehearsals are also in full swing for the Youth Cast of 18 who will perform in teams of six across the run of performances. This talented group of 11 – 14 year olds have been recruited from across Cumbria, and the theatre is proud to be offering an exciting opportunity for young local performers to perform on the main stage alongside a strong professional cast.
Theatre by the Lake invites all those that are young at heart to follow them into the Borrowers’ hidden world this Christmas for a memorable festive treat. Join the Clock family – Pod, Homily and their daughter, Arrietty – alongside a whole host of other entertaining characters, as Director Zoë Waterman brings this much-loved family story to Keswick. It’s fizzing with lots of action, beautiful storytelling and original music played live on stage by the talented cast.
Zoë Waterman. Director, who’s directed many times at Theatre by the Lake, including the hugely successful The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, said: “I love ‘The Borrowers’ because it’s an adventure story where little people triumph. It asks us to imagine what it might be like to live in fear, hidden from the world and the bravery it takes to flee your home and everything you know in search of safety and a new life. I’m thrilled to be returning to TBTL to tell this tale about the importance of friendship and family, and the joy, freedom and possibilities of the big world we live in.”
Liz Stevenson, Theatre by the Lake’s Artistic Director, said: “This production was originally planned for 2020 so it’s been a long time coming. We’re really excited to be finally staging it in all its glory in our Main House. It’s really great to have Zoë Waterman back, we’ve loved working with her in the past and she was as disappointed as us when the show had to be cancelled. We’ve had a great year, and this lovely family Christmas production feels like a really nice way to end it. We can’t wait to welcome audiences in for a wonderfully magical show!”
