Kathleen Jones: Reading My Mother
Thu 13 Mar | 2:30pmAfter her mother died, Kathleen Jones found notebooks listing every book she’d read over sixty years. Ella was conventional and religious; Kathleen a feminist rebel – reading was almost the only thing they shared. Through books, Kathleen became a writer, discovering a new world of travel and adventure, and books enabled her mother to escape the harsh realities of fell farming. Ella’s diaries helped her daughter to see her in a different light.
