Community Engagement Manager
Theatre by the Lake has navigated a great deal of change over recent years and most recently a change in leadership, as this spring we appointed Executive Director Simon Stephens to join Artistic Director Liz Stevenson as Joint CEO.
It is an exciting time for the theatre; audiences are returning in abundance, our staff team is growing and we are planning for the future with ambition and renewed focus.
As our strategy evolves, the Community Engagement Manager will play a critical role in deepening and broadening relationships with our communities.
As we plan for our 25th year anniversary, we will capture Theatre by the Lake’s inspiring history and its impact upon communities and we will ask what people want from the theatre for the next 25 years.
The Community Engagement Manager will take a lead on this and will work across our strands of activity, making links between people, opportunity, ideas and resources. They will manage, co-ordinate and evaluate all existing engagement work that continues to inform and enrich our programme. Currently the focus of our engagement activity is young people and artist development and whilst we want to develop our work in these areas we also want to evolve our community engagement activity more broadly.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about engaging people in theatre and believes in its social impact. The postholder will enjoy making connections and developing relationships with a wide variety of people. They will be a strong project manager who will drive our community engagement work and maximise opportunity.
Whilst we have outlined he full breadth and depth of the role with the job description and person specification, we welcome conversations about candidate’s experience and ambitions for the role, as we would be open to shaping the job role to best utilise the skills of the right individual for the post. For instance, currently this role does not involve any creative facilitation, however if this is a skill set you would like to bring to the role, we’d welcome a conversation.
We are looking to appoint someone with the right combination of transferable experience, skill and enthusiasm who will thrive in the role so whilst experience in theatre is desirable, it is not an essential criteria.
Given the nature of this role, it is expected that the postholder will be based at Theatre by the Lake, and would be prepared to travel around the county regularly as part of the role.
