Comedy star, Dave Hearn, returns to Theatre by the Lake for a second smash-hit summer

Dave Hearn to play Sherlock Holmes in the West End hit adaptation of The Hound of the Baskervilles. The production will run at TBTL from Fri 9 August - Sat 14 September.

The Hound of the Baskervilles was adapted for the stage in 2006 by John Nicholson and Steven Canny for physical comedy theatre makers, Peepolykus, and will get a fresh new makeover this summer in Cumbria. John Nicholson, an Olivier-nominated director, returns to direct this exciting new production which takes all the familiar elements of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous tale through an exhilarating ride of ridiculously funny performances, witty dialogue and buckets of chaos.

Director, John Nicholson, said: “Steve Canny and I have rewritten our original 2006 script to make it funnier, sexier and feel more contemporary. Since that time there has been an explosion of ‘Goes Wrong’ style theatre. With this new script however, we wanted to go back and delve deeper into character comedy, clown and dramatic tension. TBTL has such a great reputation – everyone who does a project here tends to fall in love with the theatre. I visited briefly when I was working on One Man Two Guvnors and thought it would be fantastic to have the opportunity to make a show here. Although Baskervilles is set in Dartmoor, I think the wild beauty of Cumbria will be inspiring.”

A talented company of 3 actors will take on the challenge of playing the many different characters in this farcical adaptation. TBTL audiences will recognise Dave Hearn, who played Richard Hannay in their co-production of The 39 Steps last summer, and has featured in many of the critically-acclaimed ‘Goes Wrong’ productions. Accompanying Hearn on stage will be Helena Antoniou (Trial By Laughter – Watermill/UK Tour, The Snow Queen – Yvonne Arnaud) and Katy Daghorn (The Play That Goes Wrong – West End, Peter Pan Goes Wrong (UK Tour).

The creative team includes: Fi Russell (Set and Costume Designer); Simisola Majekodunmi (Lighting Designer); Peter Coyte (Composter and Sound Designer) and Sundeep Saini (Choreography and Movement).
